Devlog 2

This past week we continued development of our game.

The first level has been significantly modified. Perhaps the biggest change was to add custom models into the game, such as the small pipes:

And the bags of chips.

We also added (non-functional) holes:

Another major change was the addition of a Cinemachine camera to the level. This camera looks at, and moves with the coin.

We also created the model for the coin!

It was made by starting off with a basic 12 poly cylinder, unwrapping it and then further detailing it by creating a bump map based on the exported UV layout using basic shapes and tools in photopea/photoshop.

The texture needs to be baked and transferred to Unity still as it is just using a principled BSDF node in Blender. The workflow developed in the creation of this model has proven to be rapid for creating quick, detailed and optimised models if applied and planned for properly. This makes modelling for the rest of this project faster and easier.

We also uploaded a very preliminary build to itch.io, which you can play right here!

As a team we came up with different user interface designs to get a feel for what we wanted from this week.

These were our ideas for a UI whilst the game is running,

These were our start menu mock-ups,

And these were our game over screens! The "next level" screens will look very similar to these, so we didn't design anything concrete for them.

We'll be back with more updates next week!
